Office of the Sheriff
Office of Professional Standards (OPS) Division
Recruits personnel, conducts applicant background investigations, investigates incidents involving Office staff, conducts random drug testing and acts as property and evidence custodian.
Responsible for investigating cases of an internal nature (such as citizens' complaints, allegations of misconduct and accidents).
Responsible for conducting background investigations on all applicants prior to employment with the Office.
Responsible for maintaining and controlling all property and evidence seized by the Office.
Bond Administration Division
Responsible for the overall administration of bonds, collection of funds owed the Office, County, victims, recipients of child support, etc., and the sales of forfeited property. Also the Office liaison to bonding companies conducting business in Fulton County.
Responsible for refunding cash bonds, collecting outstanding debts on delinquent taxes, collecting money for child support, collecting fines not paid in court, collecting restitutions for victims, collecting purges and administering Sheriff's sales.
Responsible for monitoring and assisting the bonding companies of Fulton County, collecting outstanding FIFA's and judgments owed to the Sheriff for bond forfeitures.
Responsible for Office-media relations as well as releasing information about the Office to the news media.
Administrative Bureau
Planning and Research Division
Responsible for conducting research, developing and maintaining policies and procedures, ensuring policies are available to all staff, providing instruction on policies and procedures, developing short and long-range plans for the Office, managing CALEA and A.C.A. Accreditation and maintaining all Departmental forms.
Responsible for handling all computers, Data Processing and Information Technology for the Office.
Responsible for ensuring that the guidelines, policies, etc. are being followed on a daily basis by line personnel.
Special Operations Division
Consists of the Reserve and Auxiliary Sections, which assist the Office by volunteering services to specific organizations in the community and other agencies within Fulton County, as requested. Responsible for securing persons in the custody of the Office at Grady Memorial Hospital.
P.O.S.T.-Peace Officer-certified volunteers who assist the Office by working shifts with the Warrant/Service and Court Services Divisions, volunteering their services to specific functions in the community and other agencies within Fulton County as necessary.
P.O.S.T.-Jailor-certified volunteers who work at the Fulton County Jail and do charity work. They do not perform law enforcement duties.
Responsible for securing persons in the custody of the Office while they await hospital services.
Training Section
Responsible for providing recruit, in-service, specialized training for the Office Staff.
Personnel Section
Liaison for the Fulton County Personnel Office. Responsible for maintaining Office personnel files, payroll and time sheets.
Budgeting & Purchasing Section
Responsible for ordering, purchasing and tracking all supplies and assets for the Office.
Administrative Support Section (Fleet and Warehouse)
Responsible for coordinating the maintenance of all Office vehicles, ensuring that all vehicles are operating properly, with up-to-date tags, vehicle inspections, recalls, repairs, etc. Also responsible for Jail warehouse procurement, storage and distribution.
Staff Accountant/Auditor Section
Responsible for managing and accounting of the Inmate Welfare Fund and other cash accounts.
Warrant/Service Division
Responsible for service of legal processes, locating fugitives from justice; coordinating NCIC/GCIC communications; conducting statistical analysis of legal process and warrant tracking; managing all enforcement-related special teams, assisting other agencies within Fulton County with law enforcement tasks as necessary and managing the community relations function of the Office.
Responsible for the serving of Criminal Warrants and Civil papers.
This is a 24 hour-a-day operation, due to interactions with other agencies. Maintains warrant files, verifies warrants and superior court indictments, maintains sexual offender files for Fulton County, produces Uniform Crime Reports (UCR), keeps track of incident reports, tickets (traffic, criminal and parking), expungements, criminal histories, etc. (for the public and the Office).
Responsible for serving high-risk warrants and locating fugitives.
Responsible for interacting with the citizens of Fulton County and Atlanta through various programs such as: G.R.E.A.T (Gang Resistance Education and Training), S.T.A.R Program (Safety Training and Response), the Junior Deputy Program, Senior Citizens, Halloween parties, give-a-ways, etc.
An extension of Civil Process and Warrant Service, in a remote location focusing on the southern portion of Fulton County.
Responsible for the safety and escort of: high profile individuals, judicial officials, witnesses and others in need of protection.
Responsible for responding to calls on potentially explosive items, suspicious packages, etc.
Activated in the event of a life-threatening hostage/barricaded subject, civil disturbance, high-risk warrant situation, or activated to mutually aid other agencies.
Responsible for attempting to peacefully resolve any hostage/barricaded subject incident through dialogue with the subject.
Court Services Division
Responsible for providing a secure environment for the various courts of the County and securing detainees while awaiting court in those facilities. Includes building security for the Justice Center Complex (JCC) as well as extraditions.
Responsible for transporting inmates to court, to and from other facilities and compassionate visits. They also transport patients to hospitals and other physical and mental health facilities.
Responsible for transporting inmates, maintaining order in court, and providing security for Judges and staff.
Responsible for performance evaluations for Court Division personnel, training, scheduling, timekeeping, post orders and record keeping.
Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the courts (Superior, State, Juvenile, and Probate) in the Justice Center Complex.
Responsible for maintaining the security of the Justice Center Complex, and providing extradition hearings for fugitives that have been incarcerated in Fulton County for a crime committed in another jurisdiction.
