The Fulton County Jail Bureau is maintaining its Triple Crown of Accreditation. The American Correctional Association (ACA)
recently announced the re-accreditation of the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office. The award was presented to Sheriff
Myron E. Freeman at the ACA Winter Conference in
Tampa,
Florida
January 22, 2007. This comes after
an extensive audit of the Jail Bureau September 11 – 13, 2006.
The Fulton County Jail scored 100% on the mandatory standards and 97% on
non-mandatory standards.
In presenting the award, Mr. Robert Garvey, Chairperson
of the Commission on Accreditation for Corrections (CAC), and Mr. Gary Maynard,
President of the ACA, complimented Sheriff Myron E. Freeman and his staff on their
professional level of operation and their success in completing the accreditation
process.
Sheriff Freeman says, “We are running a facility that is constitutionally
sound maintaining safety, order, and security.”
The accreditation program is a professional peer
review process based on national standards that have evolved since the founding
of the Association in 1870. The standards
were developed by national leaders from the field of corrections, law enforcement,
law, architecture, health care, and other groups who are interested in sound correctional
management.
ACA standards address services, programs, and
operations essential to effective correctional management reflecting practical,
up-to-date policies and procedures prescribed to at facilities throughout the world. Through accreditation, an agency is
able to maintain a balance between protecting the public and providing an environment
that safeguards the life, health, and safety of staff and inmates.
The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office is accredited
by three well-respected organizations:
the American Correctional
Association (ACA), the Commission
for Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), and the National Commission of Correctional Health Care (NCCHC).
